A Minute Silence

It is impossible to write silence well.

Obviously, there are the absence of words, the complete failure to respond to a thing, but that also doesn’t seem to really cover it.  The irony of much of life is that some things need to be said, and yet language hasn’t yet mustered an appropriate way to say it.

With this in mind, and watching the news coming out of Japan, I suspect all that’s left to say is this:

If I could write words suitable to the magnitude of what’s happening in Japan at the moment, I would.  As it is, I can’t, and so instead write a fluent, true and sorrowful silence.
